The move to a new facility for the Rossini.com server is complete. We now have much faster response times and a more secure facility. The new facility has automatic generator backup in case of power failure. Our new backup procedure for data extends to 30 days of data backup with off site storage daily. Now - a new server! Within the next 2 weeks we will be adding a new server. The server will provide even faster data retrieval and more storage capacity. This new server will support the growing number of customers who have database applications, and our Market Your City application. |
We are pleased to announce that we have installed a SPAM filter for email on our server. The application has been tested for several weeks. If you have received email messages with [SPAM] in the subject line, this is our SPAM filter hard at work! This filter will identify at least 80% of all email that qualifies as spam. We do not want to interfere with the email that is sent to our customers, so our program will not automatically delete email messages identified as spam. Instead, the email is clearly marked with the text string [SPAM] in the subject line. To keep the email messages out of your Inbox, you need to complete a set of simple instructions to have your email program automatically transfer the messages to your trash or junk folder. We are providing a set of instructions for the most utilized email programs. To learn how to configure your email program FOLLOW THIS LINK. If you have any questions, please send us an email. Along with the Spam filter, we have also installed a Virus filter. The Virus filter is updated automatically, and will eliminate any detected email containing a virus that matches the latest filter. Although we do have a virus filter in place on the server, this DOES NOT replace any network or personal virus protection software. You must still keep in place your own virus protection software, and keep the software updated. |

At Rossini.com we have been reviewing, and using, a new browser, Mozilla Firefox. So far we have been very pleased with the performance of the browser, and the response of the vendor to quickly resolve any bugs found in the browser. Firefox is a quick download and install, and it flawlessly converts bookmark files from other browsers you may have. One great feature of this new browser is the depth of customization available to the end user. The browser installs with basic capabilities, and from that point you can customize it with the items you want to use in the browser. This makes the product very fast without the overhead of features that you don't use. It also conforms to the latest standards for HTML and web site applications. The companion product to Firefox is Mozilla Thunderbird, the email program. Thunderbird is also a quick download and install, and in our test flawlessly converted the Inbox and other email folders from other email programs along with stored email addresses. This product also comes with a high level of features that can be customized by the end user. One feature of Thunderbird that we greatly appreciate is the suppression of images in email messages. Any email with embedded graphics is displayed with the text only; the images can be displayed with the click of a button labeled "Show Images." One of the tricks of spammers is the tracking of images accessed by email messages - if you open a spam email and display the images, the spammer knows that a live email address has been found. But with Thunderbird, if you mistakenly click on a spam message, only the text displays. The program also comes standard with Junk email controls, and you can customize the spam/junk mail. We've all known about Spyware and Adware that may be lurking on our PC's from Internet downloads. In the past we have recommended free software available on the Internet to deal with these programs and remove them from your PC. These programs are still available, and they are still somewhat effective, but just like email virus programs, these spyware programs have become more sophisticated, and have become more difficult to find and delete. Many professionals in the business of protecting PC's from malicious software are currently recommending some newer Spyware products. These products come with a price tag instead of the free downloads, but along with the payment comes a company with more incentive to keep up with the Spyware trends. One of our customers pointed out after our last newsletter that he liked to print our newsletter.
